Beautiful Morning, not enough time to kayak though.
It appears winter is on it's way out and spring is working it's way in. Slight snow yesterday that turned into rain and is no more. Forecast is for +5c today and mostly sunshine. Not enough time this morning to kayak but here are some shots of Skaha Lake at 8am today.

"My Gym" - Kayaking on Skaha Lk (Feb16-2012)
+2c and a bit of a south wind today.
Almost a year round gym on Skaha Lake. Had a week of hard water (ice) so not much kayaking last week but we had a thaw on the lake and wide open soft water again. Perfect for a little workout today.
Are any of you reading this still out winter paddling?

Morning Snow on the lake. You can barely see the only portion not frozen on the lake. The strip down the middle. Getting hard to see where the mountains begin and the lake ends.
Afternoon "Esplanade Trail" Walk along the Okanagan Lake shoreline.
Have a great day in the snow everyone!

Check this out: Cam Crate: DSLR Life Proof Camera Case
I don't advertise product on my blog but sometimes I do come across products useful or handy for the outdoors and especially kayaking. I received this email (below) today from Ian in Massachusetts and had a look at this product. Though I don't currently have a DSLR camera I do have some kayaking friends who do and might be interested. Here is the email below and if you are interested feel free to contact the link. Thanks for the info Ian, it looks like it would be great for kayaking. Thanks Ian for sharing the info with me. ~Guy
"Thought you may want to blog this week about this new DSLR camera case, it seems perfect for kayaking as it's waterproof, shockproof and floats: CamCrate details and video: http://kck.st/v44qjF It's on KickStarter.com so basically it's a preorder to help fund production and this guy's new company. It's down to the wire as the project just needs 35 more orders by this Friday at 5:55pm to make it happen. At $50 with free shipping looks like a great deal. note: I'm just a project "backer" hoping to make this real, I don't know the inventor.
Thanks, Ian in Massachusetts "MORE: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mgeyster/cam-crate-a-weatherproof-dslr-ca...

KAYAKING: DarkDay - Skaha Lake Feb-01-2012
Was a dark and dreary day today but the water was fairly calm and the temp was +5c today on the N/E of Skaha Lake.
The sun didn't show itself until I got home from my paddle and packed away all my grear. But regardless of the sun it was still a great relaxing day's paddle.

KAYAKING: Breaking-Ice SkahaLake Jan22-12
The Ice is breaking up by the dock so I headed out for a short paddle. January 22, 2012
When Processing is complete watch: Direct YouTube Video

Well, I "thought" of kayaking today.. The water is a little hard today (January21-2012)!
Survived the "storm warning" warning said 10-20cm of snow over night.
Looking out at the lake after shovelling the snow from last night's downfall and the lake looked so calm. Thought to myself, the wind is only 2kmh, Looks like a little ice along the shore thought I could launch from the end of the dock. Then after the sun had risen I had another look and it hit me, the North end of Skaha Lake is frozen pretty much all way across the width (about 4 miles across) and from the North shore about 4 houses down to the South of us. So I am thinking I may need a icebreaker of sorts to get my yak on the lake. Forecast is for warmer weather starting this weekend so here's hoping.Managed to get some shots for you all hope you enjoy them!
Have a great paddle day!
~Guy
The day did end on a beautiful note =)

Winter Storm watch for: South Okanagan - including Penticton
(ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 2.27 PM PST THURSDAY 19 JANUARY 2012)
WATCH OUT Penticton! The Notice BELOW emailed to me from "The Weather Network". -GUY
A change from bitterly cold to a milder but very moist pattern will bring significant snow and a risk of freezing rain for Friday and into Saturday. This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
A slow transition from a cold Arctic airmass to a milder but moist Pacific airmass will take place over the BC interior on Friday and into Saturday as a major Pacific storm approaches the BC coast and slowly shifts inland. An initial impulse of moisture will move across the southern areas early Friday resulting in a band of snow producing up to 5 cm with locally higher amounts in the mountain passes. The main portion of the storm will arrive in the southwest interior Friday afternoon and spread north and eastwards into the central interior and southeastern BC Friday evening and into Saturday. This may produce areas of heavy snow with 20 to 30 cm for the southeastern areas and 10 to 15 cm for the southwestern regions. Mountain passes could see even more significant amounts. There is also the potential for pockets of freezing rain where the colder area remains trapped in some valley areas on Saturday. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warni ngs may be required or extended. The public should be prepared to alter plans or in some cases avoid travel according to weather and road conditions. The forecasts may change slightly as the storm develops and moves inland. Please follow the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at WWW.WEATHEROFFICE.GC.CA Road conditions can be monitored at WWW.DRIVEBC.CA.

City shores up waterfront plans

Waterfront revitalization took not one, but two steps forward last week as Penticton council agreed to embark on a head lease and sublease for land along Okanagan Lake.
Before, the B.C. government leased the waterfront parcel directly to the Penticton Yacht and Tennis Club. The lease covers a portion of the marina containing approximately 24 moorage sites, the club building and the tennis courts. The previous agreement lasted 30 years, and it expired on Nov. 17, 2011.

I have mixed feelings on this. I hope they don't destroy the bird sanctuary and beach to the East of the Yacht Club or the Esplanade Trail to the South of the Tennis Courts. That section of beach is the only undeveloped beach left in Penticton where naturists and bird watchers have used for many years. I remember in the 1970's naturists using this section of the undeveloped beach. When they 1st released their intentions I tried to get in on the "public talks" regarding this I was not ever contacted by the group. I believe those opposed to the idea and had signed the petition were not contacted as my friends were not contacted either.

"Sick-It-Up-Buttercup" it's Winter!
North end of Skaha Lake, Penticton
"Kayaks hung on the wall with care.. with hopes that winter would never be there..."
Well we finally may have some winter I think Matt ( http://www.shuswapkayaks.com/ ) LOL
Well had a snowfall all yesterday evening and night. Shovelled the driveways at work at 5am. Finished work at 7am came home with hopes to sleep and shovelled the driveway at home so I could park my car. Now with back pain, cold fingers, running nose and now that I am wide awake might as well relax blog some pics. We had only about 2 to 3" of wet heavy snow this morning. Out where Matt lives he must have about 5 feet by now. The wind here is about 6kmh and the temp is -7.8c according to my little weatherstation by the lake. The lake is only partially frozen near the shore and the snow is still coming down as I type. The mountain across the lake can barely be seen right now. The gray looking water at the horisen almost blends into the bottom of the mountain and as I look up it disapears rightaway into a cloud of snow/fog.
(hmm doesn't appear my spell checker is working.. may be some typo's, sorry)
Hope you all like the pics. and have a great winter's day everyone! =)
